Home-style Italian lunches in the heart of Northbridge

Welcome to the family. The Re Store has been bringing the best of Europe to Western Australia since 1936. Our family-owned Lake Street store carries a full range of cheese, smallgoods, fresh pasta and other deli classics. Our café serves great coffee and house-baked cakes and pastries through the day.

Lorenzo Berti

Manager

Re Store Northbridge

You haven’t tried Pasta until you’ve tried Lorenzo’s spinach and ricotta ravioli, bechamel lasagne or tagliatelle. Lorenzo has amassed a wealth of culinary experience from the early days when his father, Danilo used to take a break from running The Lake Street store and cook lunch for the family everyday down at European Foods. The Uncles would come together at 1pm everyday to a meal prepared by Danilo, banter about current events and enjoy a well-earned pause in their busy day. This was not just a weekday event; Sunday lunch was an event to make your way to the Berti household. Danilo would begin midmorning, finely slicing celery, chopping carrots and caramelising the onions and pork sausage for his famous Sunday risotto. Lorenzo, Moreno and Maria would have friends drop by for an impromptu visit which would stretch long into the afternoon as they hover around the stove waiting for this family favourite to be ready.

Having been involved in the business from childhood, cooking and food is in Lorenzo’s DNA, his passion extends to the Italian traditions of the annual sausage making at his home, making his own killer chilli paste and pickling and preserving a variety of home-grown vegetables. His knowledge of these processes and attention to detail in the execution is a source of inspiration for all home cooks.

Under Lorenzo’s direction the Northbridge Store has grown from producing their in-house fresh pasta to cooking lunches, take home meals, Christmas hams, turkeys and cakes to external catering for events. Lorenzo can often be found keeping an eye on the store from behind the Pasta machine, with the occasional shout out to regular customers. The buzz in the store at lunch time and Saturday morning makes it a favourite amongst locals to meet for Lunch, coffee and cake or both!

Maria

The eldest daughter of Aurora and Danilo, Maria has a lifetime of experience in both wholesale and retail. Like her brothers, the family business has always been a part of her life. After completing her studies, Maria began working at the Family’s wholesaler, European Foods Cash and Carry. She had direct contact with pioneering Perth restauranteurs, owners of the vastly growing group of delicatessens throughout Western Australia and renown Hoteliers. At European Foods Maria was at the forefront of customer demand and was able to learn what tastes were evolving and what products were in demand by these innovators on the WA Hospitality scene. Her relationships with them was an invaluable tool in the Family business.

As her own family grew, Maria moved from European Foods to taking a smaller role in Re Store Northbridge. She brings her immense product knowledge, experience with customer tastes, merchandising and back office administration skills to the vibrant store. Retail and wholesale is second nature to Maria and her lifetime immersion in the family business is a valuable asset to both the Northbridge and Leederville stores.

EST. 1936

John Re, the founder of the Re Store, was the second-eldest of 10 brothers. Born in Fremantle to an Italian family, he was the perfect person to unify Australia with Italy. After running a fruit and vegetable stand in Northbridge, he pawned his wife Maria’s wedding ring to move into a proper shopfront in 1936. The Re Store story begins.
